On 9^th September 2015, H.E. Ambassador Prasittiporn Wetprasit presided over the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition ‘Cradle of Mankind’ at Science Square in Chamchuri Square, Bangkok, Thailand.  The event was also honored by the presence of H.E. Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, Ambassador of Kenya in Thailand, Ms. Kanokwan Wongthongsiri, Deputy Director of the National Science Museum of Thailand and Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia, Director–General of the National Museums of Kenya, who graciously delivered their speeches during the opening ceremony.

 ‘Cradle of Mankind’ is the exhibition of beautiful photos that display lives of tribal peoples residing around Lake Turkana, and the archaeologic site of Koobi Fora where the 1.7 million-year-old human skeletons were discovered, as well as the picturesque landscapes of geological diversity in Kenya.  This exhibition is the product of the East African Cultural Survey Project conducted by the Royal Thai Embassy in cooperation with two Thai renowned photographers and editors, Miss Duangdao Suwunarangsi, senior photographer artist, and Mr. Suwat Asavachaichan, managing editor of Sarakadee Magazine, who travelled to northern Kenya where the history of mankind presumably began, and recorded their journey in this collection of beautiful photos and captions.

In addition to this photo exhibition, Dr. Kibunjia and two members of the Kenyan press who travelled along with him from Kenya also had a chance to visit the historical park in Ayuthaya Province, the Grand Palace, Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, and National Science Museum, as well as to witness the beauty of majestic Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The study visit granted them and Thai relevant authorities a great opportunity to discuss and exchange their views on best practices in the management of historical sites and learning centers in both countries.

เมื่อวันที่ 9 กันยายน 2558 นายประสิทธิพร เวทย์ประสิทธิ์ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงไนโรบี ได้เป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดนิทรรศการ “Cradle of Mankind ณ ดินแดนต้นกำเนิดมนุษยชาติ” ณ จตุรัสวิทยาศาสตร์ องค์การพิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติ (อพวช.) อาคารจามจุรีสแควร์ ชั้น 4 กรุงเทพมหานคร และได้รับเกียรติจาก นางกรรณิการ์ วงศ์ทองศิริ รองผู้อำนวยการ อพวช. นาย Patrick Wamoto เอกอัครราชทูตเคนยาประจำประเทศไทย และ ดร. Mzalendo Kibunjia ผู้อำนวยการพิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งชาติเคนยา ร่วมเป็นผู้กล่าวสุนทรพจน์เปิดงาน

“Cradle of Mankind ณ ดินแดนต้นกำเนิดมนุษยชาติ” เป็นงานแสดงผลงานภาพถ่ายและบทความย่อยประกอบภาพอันเกี่ยวกับชนเผ่าต่างๆที่อาศัยอยู่ริมทะเลสาบ Turkana  แหล่งโบราณคดี Koobi Fora ที่ขุดค้นพบโครงกระดูกมนุษย์ยุคก่อนประวัติศาสตร์อายุกว่า 1.7 ล้านปี และภูมิประเทศที่มีความหลากหลายในเชิงธรณีวิทยา ซึ่งนิทรรศการดังกล่าวเป็นผลสำเร็จของโครงการสำรวจและส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นของประชาชนในสมาชิกกลุ่มประชาคมแอฟริกาตะวันออก (East African Community: EAC) ซึ่งดำเนินการโดยสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงไนโรบี ร่วมกับนางสาวดวงดาว สุวรรณรังษี ช่างภาพอิสระอาวุโส และนายสุวัฒน์ อัศวไชยชาญ บรรณาธิการบริหารของนิตยสารสารคดี  ทั้งนี้ โครงการดังกล่าวมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อส่งเสริมความรู้ความเข้าใจของประชาชนไทยเกี่ยวกับประเทศเคนยาและภูมิภาคแอฟริกาในมุมมองใหม่ ไม่ใช่เป็นเพียงภาพของความยากจน ความแห้งแล้งหรือโรคภัยไข้เจ็บที่คนไทยมักเข้าใจ ซึ่งการมองข้ามภาพลักษณ์ในเชิงลบจะเป็นประตูสู่โอกาสทางการค้าการลงทุนในเคนยาที่นานาประเทศให้ความสนใจเข้ามาลงทุนอย่างต่อเนื่อง

ในโอกาสที่เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้นำคณะของ ดร. Kibunjia พร้อมคณะสื่อมวลชนเคนยามาร่วมพิธีเปิดดังกล่าว เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้พาคณะไปเยี่ยมชมอุทยานประวัติศาสตร์จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา พระบรมมหาราชวัง พิพิธภัณฑ์นิทรรศน์รัตนโกสินทร์ วิถีชีวิตริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา และองค์การพิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติ เพื่อศึกษาเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับการบริหารจัดการพิพิธภัณฑ์และแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่สำคัญของไทย รวมทั้งมีการบันทึกภาพและรายงานข่าวเพื่อเผยแพร่สู่สาธารณะชนเคนยาต่อไป
